what i don't understand is why he is so willing to give up half his exp to carry her so much, like he wants to level ASAP but then is like, i know lets get half my normal exp by taking this girl with me, and as far as i can tell he gets nothing out of it, yes they are friends but its still seems odd to me.

Solo can gain a lot exp, but if the mc have a teammates the exp can give half of them

right that's my point it is just a gift to her for no reason, from what we have seen so far he has no need for teammates so its a loss of half he exp for nothing in return, i'm not saying he should not do it, i'm saying its not in line with his stated goals.

Not really a simp , since she seems to be more interested in him than he's interested in her. For him to be a simp, she needs to have 0 interest in him while leading him along.

he's just taking a friend along, what's so odd about that? wouldnt you take a friend with you, if you were him or would you be to greedy for EXP? IF you say that you wouldnt take anyone along becasue you would have to share EXP, i would tell you that you're living a sad life.
