I don't know why its so highly rated. I mean, I'm a sucker for necromancer stuff but this story, despite nailing what I want in a necromancer story, not only has terrible pacing but a terrible MC that acts like he's hot shit from page 1. He is OP from the start, know's he's OP, acts like he's OP and there is nowhere he can visibly grow.

I hate to use "Solo Leveling" as a template but its one of the best "necromancer" stories honestly, the MC doesn't start OP so there's room for him to grow as a character. There's an overarching story why he became a necromancer that can be explored, there's nothing here. There's nowhere this MC can grow, at least if you consider growing backwards as growth cause that's the only way I see this MC going.

Add to that, because the MC is already OP and for the 7 chapters so far all that's been presented is him going around bitch slapping other strong fodder with his god-like skeleton army, in just 7 chapters the story has become boring. There's no struggle for the MC, no plot he needs to overcome, there's nothing, just mindless movement from point A to point B in which he bitch slaps some randos....

A real shame really, I've noticed this trend among many chinese manhuas, the MC is always some self important guy that looks "oh so cool" from page 1 and nothing, absolutely nothing, changes about them for 100+ chapters.

6/10 with +1 from 5/10 just because the art is really good. It's a mediocre story that you'll forget you've been reading after 1 month and wonder what it's doing in your update list after that month.

I have a couple disagreements. While he is clearly OP and knows it, it seems like he is simply tackling challenges he knows he is capable of doing. You get the usual fodder who try to stop him for selfish, ignorant or outright stupid reasons, which I think should be considered standard for this sort of story, it's more how is this used to push the story forward. He certainly still has room to grow, but hopefully it will be more interesting than a nonsensical status sheet with never-ending lists of underutilized skills that show up once in the entire story.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he isn't tied down by a relative in need of expensive medical treatments? He's trying to catch up to a sister who at the moment may be even more powerful than him? We don't yet know the scope of the incoming power creep (if we did this early that would be criminal). So for me it's got a head start on all the 'awakened' stories that begin with the 'how am I going to pay off my debts' and have the MC looking forward to the future and having actual goals in mind, however minor.

As much as I loved Solo Leveling I wouldn't consider limiting authors to a specific formula of adversity. It can be refreshing to see how someone who starts OP avoids becoming complacent or how their allies and enemies react to their unusual power. These are opportunities for writers to surprise us with creativity, even if some fail to do so. So far I personally have been satisfied with his more professional approach to progressing his social climb compared to the truly arrogant or reckless types of similar stories.

MDC's take is mostly correct except a pessimistic way of looking at it. As of Ch 28, this manhua has been just been OP MC solo grinding effortlessly to try and catch up to his sister. He faceslaps some people here and there but 90% of the time it is grind, level up, check stats/loot, and grind some more.

Now one can look at this as a bad thing, but I rather appreciate the shameless, no-nonsense storytelling that has been presented thus far. It's like reading most xianxia, except without all of the "YOU SPEAK SOPHISTRY!" and "JuSt WaIt TiLl I ReAcH insert cultivation level here" rants.

Also, I originally thought the MC was off-putting and robotic, but after rereading with Drake Scans, I find the MC is actually kinda snarky and humorous when he interacts with his friends (particularly the blonde dude).

Now this is by no means a great story (thus far), but it seems very self-aware and does what it's trying to do (mindless action and OP MC breaking people's concepts of reality) so well that I sometimes think the author is writing this as a joke. I find it pretty damn entertaining for what it is but I do hope that it will do something that will make it stand out from the rest of the dreg heap that is the xianxia genre.

For now, I have not felt that I have wasted my time reading this.

Well this post did not age well.

I'll be correcting this post and elaborating on this story for those curious.

First, this is based on a novel that is currently at over 2,300 chapters. Next, it only starts as a "Solo Leveling" type story but grows into a full blown actual cultivation novel as levels become non-existent once you hit level 100 and you have to start learning Daos (or in this story they're called Laws, and higher level ones are Rules, etc. like time, space, fire, illusion, etc.).

The game elements and dungeons are unique to this planet because of this planet's secret background lore, not yet covered in the novel but minor hints have been thrown out. The story expands far beyond this planet to a much larger universe not too far in, but it is a few hundred chapters. I should also point out, for those who care about this, it is a harem despite how the story initially may come off.
Ironically, the harem is actually started due to the first heroine despite the MC's initial resistance to the other specific girls being more than just good friends.

The main character absolutely starts off overpowered. No question. However, as the story progresses a bit past where the story current is (in fact, literally the next arc iirc where he goes to the battlefield? or very soon) is when it starts to pick up and the MC has to start engaging in more free-form experiences outside of constant dungeons where he can encounter enemies far stronger than himself. This is also related to where he will meet
his best friend, a giant absurdly powerful dragon,
and is an entertaining yet unexpected character, imo. From there on most of the story has him constantly trying to fight above his level (at times extremely above to his severe disadvantage) to present a challenge, fight out numbered, etc. He will encounter plenty of near death situations going forward, unexpected encounters he is unprepared for and has to adapt to, and so forth. It should be pointed out the people on his planet are unusually weak compared to those in the far larger universe outside the planet.

Further, as he gets higher level he learns more and more spells, starts to become a physical fighter (similar to Solo Leveling/Seoul Station) after a specific event..., and eventually begins the cultivation system involving both laws/rules and body cultivation.

Main character also becomes less anti-social over time, especially starting from the upcoming mentioned arc and then further when he goes beyond this planet.

In short, there is absolutely massive room for growth. I don't blame MDC for feeling concerned over how he could grow seeing what happens super early in, but they're quite wrong fortunately.

There is also plenty of background story as to why the MC is a Necromancer, the situation regarding his sister's own incredible abilities, and why their planet is so unique and special, among much more world building. The depth here far exceeds something like Solo Leveling which is a mere drop in the ocean by comparison I feel bad even comparing the two.

It is unfortunate that they made too many assumptions about the story from, as they put it, 7 chapters in a 2,300 chapter (still on-going with very frequent updates) story.

Those who like Cultivation stories are more likely to appreciate this.

Also, I originally thought the MC was off-putting and robotic, but after rereading with Drake Scans, I find the MC is actually kinda snarky and humorous when he interacts with his friends (particularly the blonde dude).
lol yup

Sometimes, you just want to see a guy absolutely stomp on the enemies, with no bullshit feelings. This definitely fulfills that for me.

Entertaining but tasteless and predictable. The writer is either mediocre or just bored.

These are my thoughts on the work:
I love this work. The prota has a lot of overpower, and it is possible to monitor its growth. Because he is very strong for his level, but there are stronger people, like his own sister, among others. But it's great to see everyone surprised by your exploits.
And I also really like that he doesn't take insults home. You tried to kill him, you will die. No protagonist who keeps getting beaten or suffering, and then takes revenge.
I like to think he's like: Saitama from One-Punch Man, and Ainz Ooal Gown from Overlord. We are following its growth.
That's what I think of the work.

I take this opportunity to make an appeal to the BR translation team:
Please do not leave agent without updates. And thank you for the translation work.
