Hmm... I kinda see your point, though 'if... we stop at friend' is a bit on the borderline that makes me kinda not able to fully accept it is not leveraging/forcing. It can be just too blunt as you said, and might be intentional to create tension as a cliff hanger. Next chapter we'll probably gets a clear up.

Personally, I can't see it as anything but proper communication. Although I can see your perspective that he is leveraging information out of mitsuki. I think it's probably just his wording(or his bluntness as others have stated) being as straightforward as possible lol.

I mean if he just said, "Sorry I cannot go further than friendship with you because we both need to be open with eachother to move forward to a romantic relationship" Nobody would bat an eye. Alas, the guy is a blunt fellow and straight to the point 😅
