In a population where one in five is a soldier and economy would not be a healthy one without massive government stimulus or specialty products. Consider that this is not an industrial economy then up to 40% of the population would be farmers and a lot of specialization just to support a 'town' with a moat (which makes sanitation questionable) . So I can consider most of the demographic conversations to be utter nonsense.

>expecting nip writers to actually know anything other than food
You could've guessed that from the "There's no sword as refined as a japanese sword" line.

Just the usual dose of nationalism found in plenty of manga. As far as swords go, you can only pity the Japanese with their ridiculous laws that heavily restrict even sword ownership, not just firearms.

There are bloody historically reasons because sword ownership is restricted in Japan.

Historical reasons, yes. Ones that tied into social status and rank/authority. Not so important for 21st century post-war Japan. For the life of me I can't see the point of god damn sword regulation. Then again Japan also has tons of censorship regulation (and before anyone starts, there was historical precedent of that before American occupation/the end of the war) and some of the worst gun control on the planet. Realistically even if you did let the Japanese run around with firearms and knives/swords, I don't think you'd see much of an increase in crime because that's simply how their culture is. Even the censorship of porn would gradually wear off and become mundane (although given Japan's health/sex education standards being laughably bad and even making America look grand in comparison probably won't be helped much here).

"since there is no sword as refined as a japanese sword." lol I'm sure the old real "damascus" swords are definitely stronger than a sword that buckle and bends when it hits a larger sword. Something like .01% to .005% of vanadium can make iron steel so much stronger which the real damascus steel iron ore contains. They are good swords but every weapon has their faults and there is no one true best though there are some that have potential to be the best

The old swords are definitely garbage, they didn't have methods to purify the iron and make good steel, so they just pounded out as much as they could and called it a day. Literally any other sword with better purifying method is better. Funny how they instead of coming up with a better method just did what they do today, "try harder, work longer".

Bros, let the 94 year old dude enjoy his katanas LMAOO. Mans was born close enough to the end of Japan's feudal era.

@Ashisu : It said "most refined". Not "best". It is like a book being "most edited"... it isn't a good thing. It just shows that it had the most shit that needed fixing.

Also I admit to being pleasantly surprised.
I thought someone was going to call Ro a "thot". I actually thought it was an inevitability, given the usual behaviour of commenters here. But nobody is. And in fact, most comments were about the sword... =3
