What I'm wondering is if his takeaway from this is that if you have a superpower that you should make the best use of it that you can do, even if it's commanding cockroaches you can still use it as a force for good.

If you have a superpower to play golf perfectly, you could use it to win tournaments, make a lot of money and invest that money into charities or whatever else even if it is against the "spirit" of golf. Maybe he'll get that sort of message out of it.
