The kingdom gets hit hard by monsters since Mira removed her barrier, the false saint Marielle actually can't tap into her powers willingly and is basically useless( something about a curse on their bloodline because their family abused their kingdom's saint ), a black haired saint (probably a demon) shows up and extorts the kingdom of it's riches and then leaves because they can seemingly stop the monsters at bay with a barrier. By the end of volume 1, the kingdom is pretty much in shambles and the shitty prince left his post because he was too afraid of the repercussions
this is all MTL so take all this with a grain of salt

The WN description says things have been changed for the LN, and manga are normally based of the LN not WN, but ya, I do not see that changing to much.

The previous saint, born 80 years prior, was a orphan, and that is where the abuse and mistreatment started from.

They did not want to recognize her since she was not a noble, and only did when they realized she was their last saint in the nation. (part of the reason the prince wants to get rid of the MC is because her origins are "unclear", so lesson not learned)

They married her off, hoping to maintain a saintly line as the daughters of saints tend to also be saints and produce a stronger future saint, to an abusive bastard who mistreated her and did not have any kids with her.
