As safe a country as Japan is, I'd still keep my front door locked all the time if I moved there. If I moved there to a house/apartment of my own, I'd bring a good lock with me, haha. From what I've seen, the common locks in Japan can't compare.

I mean I live in a small rural village in Louisiana with few neighbors and I still keep my stuff locked mostly because crack heads are always stealing stuff( mostly generators, lawnmowers, and batteries)

Over here in Finland, during my lifetime things have changed from rural people regularly not locking their doors at all and townspeople being pretty careless to folks often installing extra locks and burglar alarm systems. Rampant drug addicts and professional burglary syndicates operating throughout Europe have changed everything.
