After whats just been said, we also know that nobody could've walked off with it. The hero she bestowed it to isn't dead either, so why would it be returned to the church? That would be my obvious answer. Is it correct? Who knows. But it's the most logical answer, therefore it's the correct answer, imo. The only thing that could change that is if the author accidently plotholes the lore he just threw out. Point is: this was easy to figure out and should've been conveyed to Mr. Bear. Most likely, it would've gotten him to go his separate way (home) after that. Which, is the best possible outcome for our ogre girl.
