Thks for the translation~
I wonder how much of his laziness is genuine
It all seems genuine. Just because he's good with a sword or in combat doesn't mean he's ready for anything else. Besides, he has a side job at night and there's little time left for him to sleep~:smugchisato:💨

Slacking off so much that he's rewarded with training or guard duty, lazy MC truly has no way out but to investigate the cause of death, huh.

Yeah, we see his inner thoughts fairly frequently.

He takes the assassination job seriously probably because of some personal doctrine or historical vendetta. But ultimately in his regular life, he seems like he primarily just wants to laze around and do the bare minimum.

Since his group is considered a myth and a joke, they probably don't get business that often so it's not something they can do for a living, and considering they're a group of assassin, it doesn't mean he gets a job all the time and we don't know how they split profit. Also last job he returned the fee back to the customer, which we don't know if that is customary or not too.

why do I feel like the daughter is the culprit
My money is on the dancer. That one panel on the bottom left of page 22; it looks like she's pinching something between her thumb and finger. Also in a lot of genres dancer (especially exotic ones) end up being spies and assassins.
