damn this one feels like it hits some real character growth. A lot of times he's needed to be coerced into helping someone he doesn't know... but it feels like he had some kinship with the way this kid got burnt out on cooking. Maybe reflecting on how his dads behavior made him reject the world of cooking, too?

That's an interesting observation! Yamaoka had a pretty rough childhood, so we might be seeing the early signs of his empathy extending to other children here.
