Why are people there quick to think negatively...?
Where I live, when people see a high school girl walking side by side with a bearded uncle, they usually think that they're father and daughter, or uncle and niece. Usually, that is.
Everyone's just teaching her naughty stuff now. Her circle of bad influences is steadily growing.
It would be nice to see a chapter of her first meeting with the uncle, though, to give a better idea of what in the world their relationship actually is.
@welcome2atlantis As someone who has never been to Japan (who could very well be wrong), I just want to say that I THINK compensated dating is unfortunately a prevalent and real problem for Japan. Why do you think sexy anime girls usually wear school uniforms? They really sexualise young girls down there (who honestly look kinda old for their age in my opinion) - and they usually wear school uniforms. Older men actually pay teenage girls to do things with them after school. Is it usually sex? I don't think so...but it is sex sometimes. I'm not sure which came first; maybe it was the popculture or maybe it was actual the actual school girl compensated dating. Either way, to some degree, I guess it's an actual thing in Japan. How do I know this? A random video on YouTube one day. I guess they see it as a problem themselves since this manga has everybody looking down on our protagonist.
@welcome2atlantis: Probably because what is normal for where you came from is abnormal in Japan to the point where the worse scenarios like compensated dating are far more likely. Do you ever see a father picking up his daughter from middle/high school in anime/manga? I don't remember ever seeing that, which if accurate to real-life Japan (and it most probably is), indicates that the cultural norm expects teenagers to have learned to become self-reliant enough to walk to school and back home all on their own; hell, IINM even elementary school students do this. IIRC Japan has comparatively lower rates of street crimes that students would be at risk of in such situations, which would justify the aforementioned phenomenon.
@MarqFJA87 "Do you ever see a father picking up his daughter from middle/high school in anime/manga?" You can't use an entertainment medium as an accurate representation of a society. Otherwise, many if not most Japanese high schoolers would live by themselves with no parents in the picture at all, there would be at minimum a 6:1 ratio of girls to boys, and a not insignificant percentage of them would be magical girls.
@rebel16 I think it's just a lot of mangas depict school life with going to school by yourself/ with friends and going home by yourself being the norm, especially in public schools. I don't think it's too farfetched to assume it's like that irl too.
