I don't really get the grandfather. It seemed like he was not really prejudiced against having a tail himself, he was just disagreeing with bringing a child with a tail into the world because of all the hardship he would have to face. But if that's the case, once the child is born, it's irreversible, right? So what's the point of refusing to hold him and distancing himself at that point? I get that they'd have this kind of a fight before they had a child, but why after? Was he just mad that he didn't listen and decided to cut him off in order to punish him emotionally? If so, the grandfather was huge fucking jackass and deserved to die alone.

To me this chapter is about being prepared to go it alone when your family does not support your choices. It's a common theme in Manga about conforming and doing what your parents and society expect of you. This story is about how difficult it can be when you go against that and how it can even cost you your relationship with your parents. It's not about having a tail even if that's what it seems like at first glance.
