The main ingredient is sweet potato starch (called Imokuzu). Add enough of it to some water in a bowl, with some vegetables (like carrots or garlic chives/green onions), add some salt and mix it. The recipe I saw also added some canned fish to it. Heat some oil in a frying pan and then add this mixture to it. As you cook, it should harden into a somewhat gelatinous texture.

I fucking hate those roll-key style cans and I'm glad they barely exist anymore. The only time I encounter them is on things like corned beef hash or something here in America. So I am glad that they are apparently rare even in Japan.

Reason being is that you can have the pull-tab break off and then you're left with needing a can opener to open them. And using a rotating one on an oval/squared off surface sometimes doesn't work.

At times like that, I just bust out a P38 can opener and open the thing. Takes a minute, but it's worth the lack of hassle.
