There are different obblat. Either way they are for eating.
Obblat are used in church as the sacramental bread as a ceremonial in the last supper e.i. catholic church. But then I dunno about how the representation of the sacrifice of Jesus and his body is in any form going along with the situation it is mentioned.
Other than that there are sweet obblat in middle germany / europe towards eastern europe --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wafer. They are just a sweet dish you may eat while having coffee or something the like.
And lastly obblat are also a cooking ingredient if you are backing "Makronen" (Macaroons) --> https://www.cooknsoul.de/rezepte/geback/kokosmakronen/.

Like thank you for the meal. But anyhow I do not know in what way the author is using them meaningful.
