Not in defense of those fake "reality tv" shows, but in regards to arranged marriages, it's still pretty common in Japan, and a number of studies have found lower divorce rates in arranged marriages as compared to finding a partner on your own.

Though I wouldn't put this couple in the arranged marriage category.

Probably the tone of her voice. He does think Sonoda dislikes him, so she likely uses a harsher tone when talking to him without the basket.
