I think of it like the Adams family and how the mom and dad are in what would be a very bad relationship if it were anyone but those two in particular.

How are they in a 'very bad' relationship? That is the only normal thing about the family, that they are very loving couple.

My wife & I see them as role models (though the fencing didn't work out for us, so we switched to karate).
