On pg.11, Numakawa makes the joke that "if Isawa goes on a rampage, she (Nausicaa) would be able to calm him down". It's a reference to the final scene in the movie where she calms down the herd of giant beetles, and their eyes go from red to green.
pg.18, Miyamoto's house goes into a full-on dehumidifying mode. Asia in general gets really wet and if you don't turn on the fans or dehumidifiers then the floors feel sticky and you'll get mould on the walls.
The funny thing about Nausicaa is that everyone thought she was pants-less because of the tan pants she wore lol. Oh, and my favorite Ghibli movie is probably Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro (1979)

Foreman says "mushi bue hyunhyun"
mushi: bug
bue: whistling, buzzing
hyunhyun: bug onomateopeia
and altogether is a play on "moe moe kyun kyun", a magical chant used at maid cafes for making things cute and tasty

This chapter is very special to me. The neighborhood I grew up in is full of soviet kindergartens with plenty of really huge gazebos, I'm talking a family of 3 can comfortably live in one. Until recently they were in disrepair and mainly used as public toilets by local drunks - but to child and then teen us it never mattered. We'd sit there for hours whenever it rained, talking about stuff we'd never talk about anywhere else, shielded from the rest of the world by rain, and whatever secrets were shared would stay inside that gazebo. We'd explore decades of love confessions and obscenities etched into the bricks, pool our coins together for snacks, think up surefire ways of becoming very rich like selling lilacs collected at that same kindergarten; when mp3 players came around in my middle school we'd share our favourite music - four people, four distinct polar opposites in taste, whoever had control of the player and a special thingy that allowed you to connect two pairs of earpieces would create a wonderful memory there, behind the rain, and we'd be one song closer to becoming irreplaceable to each other.
Thank you for showing that this is a universal experience that transcends age, culture, fiction or reality, and letting me relive those memories once more.
