It's free for women to join, while men have to pay a monthly or yearly fee. Some of them also work in a way where men can't message women - the women have to start the conversations first. After doing a bit of research online, some of them even have freemium features where you hoard 'points' over a few weeks by participating on the platform, signing in, doing tasks, etc. and then using it all on perks so you can maximize your chances in getting matches.
As for this chapter, I scoped out his Twitter a few months ago and his banner was him sitting down at a beach watching his son play in the sand. Looks like he's had a rough one when it comes to dating, but it seems that it turned out OK for him in the end.
