Yanaka, an old shitamachi (old style town) neighborhood in Tokyo which avoided the fire-bombings back in 1945. Many private stores and stalls line the streets.

pg.17, Foreman asks if he could leave the watermelon at Makita's house and he says,
"sure. my kids will be happy and kabuto beetles can get real snappy"
the japanese says "kodomo mo yorokobushi kabuto mushi mo iru shi" or "my kids will be glad, and we got kabuto beetles too"
which i think is a rhyme like "see ya later, alligator" so i translated it while keeping the rhyme

I bought a huge watermelon when I moved overseas and started living on my own. I soon realized my mistake after I had to eat watermelon after every meal in order to finish it. Apparently watermelon is a diuretic which means it makes you pee, and I was farting and going to the toilet after every meal for days. I would not recommend for the bubble guts alone even if it tastes awesome

Makita-san really is Jeeves huh, whatever hijinks Ootsuki & co are up to he's always there when needed!
Such a heartwarming chapter~ I keep seeing people in anime eating watermelon with salt but never tried it before.

I feel you .. had a giant watermelon with friends, eating most of it (about 4 kg) and on my way home had a person surrender their seat to me on public transport because I looked pregnant. Awkward ..

The best watermelon I've ever had was one mom planted, it's some really tiny breed developed for colder climates. While it was growing stray cats would come and cuddle with it and because of its size dad was obsessively trying to pickle it (thankfully we talked him out of it). It turned out really sweet but microscopic :<

There is a food manga which title I sadly forgot. It's about a hole-in-a-wall japanese eatery that don't have any menu. One chapter I remember was when they were serving watermelon. I found that weird at first, then I realized it makes sense. It's hard to eat watermelon when you live alone and/or don't have friends to eat them together. If you buy whole watermelon it will take up space in your fridge and it'll take a long time to finish it by yourself, where at that point it won't taste good anymore. So thisweird restaurant providing watermelon for their customers who aren't living in "normie" household makes sense.

Ahh, I haven't had a nice chunk of watermelon in a long time~ It's getting to that season here though. I'm just happy fruit is an order of magnitude or so cheaper here than in Japan, that's one thing I prefer here lol.

I'll be honest, right up until the end, I was so worried that the Foreman wasn't gonna remember to save some for Kimura...

The nag in me was screaming for him to support the bottom of that bag as soon as he bought the melon, and then it broke...
