To be extremely clear, I'm not against piracy entirely (heck I read the OPM webcomic somewhere else), but that's not... that's not at all how copyright works. 😅
If the original author did not give express permission, it's automatically and legally NOT allowed to be published anywhere else, and the copyright holder has the right to take down any unlicensed copies they find if they wish. Giving credit is nice, but it's not a pass. Free advertisement is also nice, but it's up to the original owner if they want that. How many actually asked the mangaka for permission anyway? I'll wager, not many.
Drama? I just find it foolish to complain about illegal copies/translations being taken down when it's always assumed it could happen at any time IN A PIRACY MANGA WEBSITE. It doesn't matter if the author is making nothing from their manga, has no ads in their website, nor has official translations, copyright is still there.
I just find it hard to understand why it's... hard to understand for some people. 🤷♀️
But I bet the same people somehow made something go viral that can make them money, they'll suddenly understand how copyright works.
