How else would they ask for money if they didn’t post a new chapter?
Yeah, if I'm going to spend $30, then I would prefer to wait until the official English is up to date and buy that to support the Mangaka and original author.
I understand that MOST fan translations are done completely on the group's own pocket and out of the kindness of the group. Sometimes they host the translation on an Ad funded group webpage, and periodically upload elsewhere, to fund their translation projects.
While not getting into the stated controversies of the uploader, such as not paying the translator what they were promised for the work, as I was neither directly nor secondary to that so I cannot judge the truth behind it, I still feel the need to state that I feel incredibly uncomfortable paying for something that is scanned, translated, modified and (and here's the kicker) uploaded publicly - without prior knowledge or permission of the original creator (completely ignoring the publisher is effected as well).
That is NOT to say that NO group has EVER attempted or SUCCEEDED in getting permission from an author/publisher. If the group who fan translated Bleach is to be believed, they not only tried to get permission, they were given it under the condition that they only host two or three chapters (the most recent ones; and it may have been only one, I don't really remember at this time). So, I CAN BE DONE.
Please note, while the underlying tone of the above IS that this entire thing IS very much illegal, I'm not pointing fingers or saying people should stop (or be arrested and charged), merely stating that I won't actively participate in the process.
Also of note is that the scanning, translating and editing of the manga itself is NOT illegal, it is the posting to publicly accessable locations that is. I.E. if an individual we're to pay a group to do this for them alone, and not share it with others, that would not be illegal...
And finally, if you actually managed to read to this point, congratulations, you have far more of an attention span than most. And I apologize for rambling.

Ah well, I always ignore donation beggars. I only donate to teams that I like (and that don't ask for donations directly)

For reference: If you donate on Ko-Fi, there is a significant chance your donation is hidden by this group after a short while. This way, people don't realize exactly how much was donated. The constant switching of Paypal and Ko-Fi accounts illustrates that even the companies realize something is amiss. Additionally, this group will keep sending begging e-mails to anyone that supported in the past.
