Personally I like the premise of a member of a typically barbaric species learning to become civilized and understand other cultures for the sake of finding a partner.
I agree, but also would like to add that even if dont justify their actions and something they will need to change to be able to live in the current times, I find understandable why their culture develop that way taking in account the situation of their world and their biology.
War have being going on their world for over 5000 years, in one shape or another. It probably wasn't even always in the current 4 x 7 races, but even if it was, orcs are seen as lower races on the 7, so their chances of getting a mate concensually would be at most lizardmen or harpies. And then those races probably wouldn't want to do so much as orcs only have orcs as children.
But orcs can only reproduce though women of other races. And in a period of war where you're likely losing many people frequently, it is necessary to also reproduce a lot to keep the species going. So had the orcs not have developed their culture the way they are now, they likely would have disappeared long ago.
