Even in a FromSoft Souls universe there's still people making Weinstein-like propositions to people. "Let me put my big purpose into your empty vessel" like seriously, does anyone in this reality hear themselves talk?

That's a much tougher dilemma for those remaining kids than it might seem to us reading it. The whole time since they got trucked they've only been hearing how the demons have been literally demonised by the empire. Now they're being love-bombed, and their mood is so cruddy that even a decent meal is enough to win them over. Now they have to decide to either run away, hope that they don't get killed for doing so, and try to turn defector with actual demons, or go with Rei, who hasn't exactly been hiding the fact that she can, and eventually will, kill them, with only a vague hope that she'll kill them last after offing the rest of their friends and classmates, along with entire sentient species.

I'm not being flippant. This is an actually difficult position for them, and remember that they're high school kids who have been snatched away from home and family, forced into being child soldiers, and already suffered through the trauma of seeing multiple classmates being killed right in front of them. There aren't any good choices from their perspectives.

it's like when Ragnarok finally arrives, do you ally with Thor the side of Lawful, knowing that you're hopelessly outmatched against the Great Old Ones, and knowing damned well that your cause is ultimately hopeless, doomed to failure, and you're going to meet a violent end? Or, do you side with Cthulhu on the side of Chaos, be forced to do horrible things you cannot even conceive of, lose your mind and soul in the process, and knowing just as certainly that he's eventually going to snack on you, or just crush you because you're so far beneath his notice?

Either choice sucks, and these kids (with one notable loudmouthed exception) are likely well aware that being forced into it now is a result of their own actions, or lack thereof.
