That sounds more like conditioning, She fell in love with him because he's caring and protective of her but that should only go so far before it becomes a parent/child relation, the conditioning part comes in where he always treated her like a small child so she got used to that, it became the norm for him to treat her like a child so now even though he's holding back to an appropriate degree she views it as uncaring and inattentive.
