That makes total sense. They swim down through a cave, and then they arrive at the mermaid village which has sunlight. The illusion explanation doesn't really explain it either. It's not like they ended up in a different lake.

How do you turn a distance? You can shift a distance, but turning is an angular change.

Just what use did they get from selling the mermaid?
Money? But can they use it underwater?
Or equipment? Like weapon or armor? But the terrains different will reduce it's effectivity right?
