Great job on this, love your TL and can tell you did everything with a lot of care. Thanks for going back and doing all the old ones.

If it weren't for the moire in the higher-lpi tones that doesn't seem to be in the raws, this would be literally perfect.

I did the old chapters because I had to, and comments like this reinforce that it was worth it.

That aside, here's a portion of the raws at 100% zoom. I think that the moire is present here, but is there anything I can do to mitigate it?

Edit: catbox is having issues so the image might be invisible. plz understand.

Oh, weird. It's totally on that image, but not in this screenshot I took off comic walker in-browser:

Why? No idea yet. Totally investgating later when I'm back on a pc. I do see that there's less detail in the classroom floor on the right, which isn't halftone but an honest-to-god dithered gradient. So maybe something in the flow of image to screen is introducing juuust enough blur to mitigate it without noticably softening edges.

As for dealing with it, I think methods are mostly focused "don't introduce any more of it by resizing the image" and variably complex filter-based methods of blurring it out of existence while preserving as much detail as possible. It's a problem introduced by math so you'd think there'd be an elegant math-based solution to it, but damned if I can find it.

@magnum_45 Just to follow up, the raws I pulled from above source were 1284x1822 .webp at 72dpi, vs. the image you provided at 96dpi. Here's an equivalent crop exported to 8-bit PNG:

Here's the answer I knew about all along and should have said earlier: my raws are higher res, and from the purchasable volume version. Never thought higher res would mean more moire.

Oh that's messed up, but it would totally do it - stretching or shrinking in any way will create patterns. Now I have one more thing to stress out about when deciding where to buy.

I don't think anybody'd judge if you left it. Even if you wanted to go back and use the other raws, all your redraws would need to be redone, so... yeah, that's demoralizing. I would never have even brought it up but for the fact that your release is better than like half of the last 10 professionally localized works I've looked at.

Welp, mystery solved, at least.

Of course Makita is serious. He's the scion of a huge global corporation known all over the world. His path in life is set in stone, and it's a big path.

I didn't see the twist coming. Jolly good.
