I actually like how the author wrote this. The parents are super stuck in their own ways and beliefs which is realistic…BUT at the end of the day they are willing to be ok with it for their daughter’s happiness. I know a couple people who have dealt with parent-in-laws like that.

I've met people like this and it's very hard for them to understand something like this. You see that they're worried about their kids' future and they want them to have the best chance at success but also so set in the past, they can't see any other way than the one they set for themselves.

You know, just once I'd like one of these manga to NOT have the parents change their minds. It's great that they're able to change the parents mind, but just once I'd like a manga to go "No, fuck you, we're getting married anyway. You can either approve and be happy for us, or stay out of our lives." Show characters with a SPINE, none of this "I need their validation" crap. I get that it's a part of Japanese culture, but if your parents are that bent on disapproving of your partner. Dad literally said "You've managed to turn your life around and have a respectable job? Too bad, you still fucked up when you were a kid, we don't need that drama."

it's a very simplified version about a very real prejudice. the turnaround is probably bc the author doesnt see a point in dragging out an unnecessary conflict arc

If I have every nickel for every time I'm being reminded by a manga to pay the taxes in this week, I have two nickel.
We see lots of messaging in manga that is quite unnatural…

…unless some share of the writers are being told to include those messages, and others are thoughtlessly aping them.

I suspect that propagandizing for taxes is going to appear with increasing frequency, unless Japanese readers begin mocking that propaganda.

Took them like 2 minutes to change their mind.

I'm 95% sure Nao, definitely, didn't just show his bank balance.

Fair do’s. At the end of the day, majority parents only wants their offsprings to live well

Did the IRS kill your parents or something?
