I guess the author is trying to tell the story in a lighthearted way, but It feels like rushing.

I know external validation AND community is a great deal for most people, but I believe one can be whole without forcing relationships. Also, clothes must always be confortable before everything else.

If one needs a flashy armor, go for It, but only if you want, even simple clothes can be a more difficult experience depending how you approach them.
