I wonder if it's as painful for authors to write the most weak reasons for catching a fever as it is for us to read.

Unless these sorts of things are actually common enough over there. Only one I ever find reasonably believable is if it was someone that was being worked to the bone tbh

Japan has the weirdest ideas about how people get sick.

Like... it's a virus, you guys. It just happens if you're unlucky enough to catch it. It doesn't care if you had a long shower, or didn't dry your hair after showering, or slept with your stomach exposed, or slept under the kotatsu, or whatever other weird voodoo nonsense you want to claim is at fault.

It's not that simple. Rhinovirus, the most common common cold cause, prefers a colder temperature for replication than the nominal human body temperature, which is why it's an upper respiratory tract infection. So, if your respiratory tract gets even slightly colder than normal due to a colder environment, plus more moist, it gives the rhinovirus a better environment for multiplication. So, if you happen to carry the virus when exposing yourself to cold, the boost to the virus might be the straw that breaks the camel's back and allow it to cause the acute infection.

All that being said, naturally you need to be carrying the virus on your membranes already. In many cases, you might just make the common cold appear a little bit earlier than it would have otherwise.

high school dropouts should stop pretending like they know how the common cold works

Not gonna lie but I've gotten cold once the next day when the fan was blowing directly at the side of my face for the whole night
