At this point, Mahiru knows Amane is perfect hubby material for her, and she's gonna work to close that distance going forward. He may not have given as much in terms of tangible stuff, but in terms of emotional support, he has provided her with an alternate path to escape the trash path she was likely to go down had she remained alone.

Now Amane needs a bit of boost to truly get himself back up and running. This will take some time, but I guess it's more realistic that way to have him slowly improve himself. He's already good enough in Mahiru's eyes; he just needs to be able to confidently stand by her side.
