Is it me or did things just stopped making sense at some point?

Yep, is a pretty bad chapter.
It started from wher eit left last time, anbd that is fine, but then MC wasgetting chased to do stuff and some kid we didn't really see before started to wonder if he was or wasn't some childhood friend, is not as much as the pace was all over the place but that a good chunk of the chapter was absent to start with.
