Hi,

We've been scanlating https://mangadex.org/title/31002/jimi-na-kensei-wa-sore-demo-saikyou-desu , and have released the first eight chapters, and plan to continue until we catch up to Japan. Unfortunately, this series had an old MTL translation of the first chapter, split in mislabeled halves. We're seeing a lot of complaints from people in various places about the terrible translation, because they're presented with a bunch of MTL choices, and don't realize that there's a good human translation of the first chapter. I'm hesitant to report the chapters as there's a rule that sort of covers this, but would it be possible to remove the MTL translations so that the human translation is the obvious choice? In fact, the MTL seems to actually be an MTL from the Spanish translation, not even the original Japanese.

Here is our group's (human) version of chapter 1: https://mangadex.org/chapter/512229

Here is an MTL of the first half of chapter 1 (incorrectly labeled as "chapter 0 preview"): https://mangadex.org/chapter/462034

Here's an MTL of the second half of chapter 1 (incorrectly labeled as "chapter 1"): https://mangadex.org/chapter/464230

Here's the same MTL of the second half of chapter 1 (incorrectly labeled as "chapter 1") that somebody tried to edit and re-typeset without re-translating: https://mangadex.org/chapter/464313

The start of this series is a big mess, and a lot of people read the MTL and decide to ignore the series due to the poor quality. It's a bit frustrating because I'd like to think we've done a pretty darned good job translating the series, work that people often don't see if they pick the wrong version of chapter 1 and drop it for the terrible quality.

I sympathize with your situation, but MD does not police scanlation quality with the exception of troll releases.

We are purely an indexing service (pardon the pun) and we don't curate our content. I personally believe that hard work and higher quality scanlations will always win out over low quality content. It's happened time and again. Take, for example, New Gate and Baki. Two groups have gone back and redone earlier chapters in higher quality with better translations. Readers are expressing appreciation for those "re-dos".

Yeah, we don't just remove legit scanlations unless they actually break a rule. Being lower quality than a competitor's release isn't against the rules.

The best we can do under this situation is remove the Vol. 1 from the Isekais Scan versions so that they and your releases get properly grouped together as the same chapter.

That’d help, sure. Can we also get their chapter numbers corrected? None of the MTL releases have the correct chapter numbers listed. The one labeled ch0 is actually the first half of chapter 1, and the two labeled chapter 1 are only the second half of chapter 1. Our release of chapter 1 is the only one that has the whole thing. I’m basing this on the chapter as published on the oublisher’s website, where all the colour and monochrome pages are all simply in one long chapter.

I also don’t know where they got the chapter title from. I think they made it up or took it from the light novel, as it’s nowhere to be found on the publisher website or in the chapter itself, and the first manga volume has only been announced with no preview (not even the cover) available.
