Seeing the cover change kinda spoil it.
But still heartbreaking nonetheless, rest well red princess, the writer really don’t pull any punches.
And for me, the death in this manhwa hold a heavy weight cause every character is so flashed out which is great for the story but also really painful when the death flag is subtly raised.
More people need to read this.
i disagree for the most part, this one and the last chapters are the only chapters to really effectively show character death. significantly developed characters were never the ones that would die for a good portion of the story, only the ones which were lazily given backstories and personalities only in the moment preceding their deaths, especially in the first dragon fight which is carried by art. if the characters weren't given unique pretty designs it would not have felt as impactful for most readers i imagine. i find these deaths stronger as they have a bigger emotional impact on the primary cast, fuels their future development and allows those characters to go out in a memorial way that gives them justice rather than killed off for the sake of maintaining a death toll quota
if you want a story in a somewhat similar vein to this where death does very much matter, i would recommend i became the tyrant of the tower defense game more. while this series has imo gotten much better in the writing department after the returning to loki's account arc, this story still leans a bit too far into the grimdark (ie characters are mostly in for themselves and selfishness is normal, nicer people get killed off or removed for being weak, death is commonplace and only escalates) which i think is to its detriment. i find series with character death to be far more compelling if those characters are given time and the story focuses more on the hope for the future than on sheer despair.
i would hope to be proven wrong as the series progresses and i do realise some of this is just personal preference rather than universal fact. i know this series is pretty highly rated
