The Tea Tans (titans? Tea Timers?) are based on Shonentai, a 80's boy band trio while their wierd wardeobe is based on the Checkers, another 80s's japanese boyband which wore (well, checkers patterns....)

just to note on page 11 there is an unstranlated speech bubble onthe top left.
