Hi! There's a series I love that hasn't been updated in 2 months; I haven't been able to find anything from the last translator saying it's officially been dropped, though I know there are some 40~ish chaps of untranslated raws out. English is my first and only language so I can't do my own translations, but I have a lot of affection for this series and have been considering editing/proofreading the other translators work.
The series (Chitra if you're curious, it's a unappreciated gem that I highly recommend) has had a pretty turbulent upload history and like 3-4 different scanlators over the years, so some chapters are much higher quality than others. Afaik all of those groups are either inactive or disbanded now, and I haven't found a way to get in touch with any of them to ask for permission. I really respect how much work that they've done and their translation is definitely decent, but as a native English speaker there's sometimes grammar or phrasing issues that come off as awkward and clunky to me, especially in the earlier chapters. Also, minor pet peeve, the most recent uploader uses a serif font but that's me being picky ik ik. All this is to say, would it be rude of me to edit their work to adjust the typesetting and writing and re-upload it? What's the etiquette there? Obviously giving credit since I'd be using their translations/RAWS/ect. This would definitely be a labor of love for me; I have a lot of experience in editing and proofreading and am pretty comfortable using Photoshop ect, but haven't worked with manga specifically.
