I am surprised they didn't get arrested for the vase-thing, that sounds like attempted manslaughter, no idea why that'd be allowed to become a civil case.
Civil cases and criminal cases can exist simultaneously. Famously, OJ Simpson was acquitted in the criminal case of his wife's murder, but deemed liable for her death in the civil case and ordered to pay damages.
It could be attempted manslaughter, more likely something like aggravated battery, but it's quite possible that charges were never filed, or that they were dropped. Shouryou
needs this to be a civil-only matter, because that creates the circumstances for constructing his alibi - the settlement negotiations during which he could get the brothers to create their fraudulent testimonies. Which means he didn't file or press charges, and instructed his lawyer not to do so, either. He
needed to look meek and easy to push around. That's what his half-brothers expect to see - and that's how he got 'em to slip up. If they'd resisted the opportunity to bully him just
