Damn, last page reads like a death flag for Anchan. I'm not gonna lie America fucked Japan but let's be honest, the Hirohito government was was considerably despotic. Ofc American interventionism and liberalization was only neo-colonialism. But the fascist Imperial Japan was in considerable economic decline after World War 1 and the annexation of Korea (the pitfall of a war economy). And then there was the rise of militarism and further depression in the Showā era undoing many reforms of the Taisho era. Very much a what if moment in history. Even crazier if you consider the dismantling of Imperial Japan as a galvanization of USSR influence in the Global Southeast. Because America was actually allied with Japan to fight the Bolsheviks in Siberia and the area of Sakhalin Islands (known as Karafuto then). A very interesting manga about this period of Japan post Meiji Restoration is Golden Kamuy one of my favorites.
