Wait, so was it AFTER the initial attack on the settlement that she fainted?

Because it says it was months after he was killed and that they were sending an extermination mission because of the violent attacks. Which would only make sense (with our current framing) if she was already given a reason to turn violent, as none of the other mandragoras were implied to be attacking humans at that point.

I see some people seem to be getting the timeline confused (maybe my TL or the presentation was confusing?) so let me break it down:

Chronological order:
  • Raune's village is attacked by a group of mercenaries (we know they're doing illegal work because they want to sell body parts on the black market)
  • Raune gains a hatred for humans and begins killing them for revenge in order to protect the forest she lives in
  • Months or years later, in her continuous revenge, Dr Arest is presumably killed by her as well
  • Authorities are now considering deploying a unit there to kill Raune, they have not yet done so.

You don't send an extermination team on all bears in a forest because some bears attacked humans that were passing by.
Well, the robots kinda saved Raune by keeping her in the lab for the past month then.

You do,though, when a particular bear has been killing people for months/years instead of staying away from humans, but usually just the lone bear.

Their loss of human fear is why things get dangerous, more so for them once the humans have had enough.

Whilst exterminating the masses is a good idea to keep things safe,so much so that it became one of the factors behind the lack of wolves and bears on the British Isles.

The mandrakes, though, were known by humans to be sentient, and are also known to have that vicious death scream, with negotiations not forthcoming.

That makes them even more dangerous for the humans.

Lone surviour seeking blood, has presumedly shed a lot of blood over the course of a few months/years,and now a famous researcher is amongst the dead,Jeff Bezos would be more then happy to send his Amazon Death Squad in.

Good thing our lil' robo quadruplets found her first.

There's something amusing about 4 robots with bipedal roombas as feet traveling through a forest

When I'm old I hope to make a mysterious lab in a forest and leave behind a bunch of autonomous self aware robots who call me father...
