For an official spinoff of a fan-favorite like Jack the Ripper, i could not imagine a more disgusting chapter 1/2 combo.

For Jack fans, you would do well to consider this non-canon and instead a fanfic as written by a wannabe-edgy 13 year old.

A genuine disgrace to the already established character. This story could have been told many different ways to include Jack, but the worst possible one was chosen.

#NotMyJack

P.S., that "arm-extendo" bullshit was bullshit, even in a world of superhumans and the supernatural. they are still human!

Imagine taking a character whose entire plot relevance is being a bad person but eventually gets forgiven with a hero's sacrifice.

Then you write a spinoff prequel where not only is he not a bad person, he's not even Jack the Ripper, negating the point of everything that happens and wasting said sacrifice.

Genuinely one of the most offensive spinoffs I've ever read. If it were an independent manga, it might be ok, but we don't live in that timeline.

They quite literally say that he's murdered the most people for his own desires. Even if he's not Jack the Ripper, I still think he still qualifies as a "bad person"

Kinda weird to make "Jack the Ripper" not Jack the Ripper and just a government assassin killing corrupt people to make him a "good guy" for the sake of the spin off story, fucking over the plot of the main story. This shouldve been a story about after the fight with Jack improving himself, not a whole ass prequel that retrospectively shits on the source material.

This series is a mixed-bag, but one that I want to keep watching. The first chapter "whitewashes" a very "Dark" character in a sense that Shuumatsu no Valkyrie's Jack the Ripper isn't actually Jack the Ripper all along, but some "Jack" that killed the original Jack the Ripper and took over his name at the tournament in the afterlife.
This serves to point out that he's not THE serial killer which removes the most interesting plot point regarding him in the main manga, which leaves us with a British rando which is very posh, kills with several knives strategies, and is a sort of a cleanup man.

Now that we left the dissappointing part aside what does trascend in the manga is what is left about him that makes it so compelling, he can see peoples' feelings & looks for the certaing high of getting to see his victim's "colors" right after he kills them, and does it with a certain whimsical elegance enough to be charming. Without spoiling the later chapters it is there where this manga gets on its stride and makes me want to read more, in spite of how badly it presented itself.

Give it a try if you wish to read about NOT Jack the Ripper, (serial) assassin extraordinaire.

Honestly I don’t see why everyone is complaining, I thought it was obvious that in the main story Jack doesn’t match up with the real Ripper at all. Like he obviously has a weird and immoral need to kill, he’s not some hero or even a government worker, like he enjoys killing as much as eating, so he’s in a self serving situation, but why would someone with his motives go for just prostitutes? It makes more sense for him to not be the real Jack the Ripper, like how do you go from killing the most vulnerable and abused demographic to killing a god? Like dark, irredeemable character doesn’t equal good writing. Even in the main storyline there’s build up to point at Jack not being the worst pos in the world from his interactions outside his battle.

bro what the fuck is that whaaat. Retconning him as not being the true/OG Jack the Ripper is "ok", but somehow this is when he was a human, alive, and he is more of a superhuman than with the Valkyrie weapon. He literally [SPOILER!!] freed his joints and launched a cannon ball with enough force to pierce a hole through another. Then at the same time stopped a bullet in it's track. IF he had such skills at his disposal maybe he did not even need all that teather just to lower heracles guard. Could have just thrown multiple spears at him.
