This series is a mixed-bag, but one that I want to keep watching. The first chapter "whitewashes" a very "Dark" character in a sense that Shuumatsu no Valkyrie's Jack the Ripper isn't actually Jack the Ripper all along, but some "Jack" that killed the original Jack the Ripper and took over his name at the tournament in the afterlife.
This serves to point out that he's not THE serial killer which removes the most interesting plot point regarding him in the main manga, which leaves us with a British rando which is very posh, kills with several knives strategies, and is a sort of a cleanup man.
Now that we left the dissappointing part aside what does trascend in the manga is what is left about him that makes it so compelling, he can see peoples' feelings & looks for the certaing high of getting to see his victim's "colors" right after he kills them, and does it with a certain whimsical elegance enough to be charming. Without spoiling the later chapters it is there where this manga gets on its stride and makes me want to read more, in spite of how badly it presented itself.
Give it a try if you wish to read about NOT Jack the Ripper, (serial) assassin extraordinaire.
