He was probably disappointed by having his own freedom limited by the magic contract. He can't feel like a boss so much anymore. It's also stressful if he isn't free to spill the beans, should some royal knights come knocking on the door and asking questions. If he was really wanting for money, then maybe finally getting it would diminish all downsides, but I reckon it will be just more luxuries on top of existing luxuries for this priest. In addition to all this, he must have really disliked being looked down upon, having his vices pointed out when he still pretends to be a servant of the heaven.
