Hmmm my guess is that the lost souls up until now have been piling up and turning into demons that possess people....just a theory though and not a spoiler.
@Arenesos That would be a fun new twist on the typical isekai fare. I don't think that this story will go that route, but I'd quite like to read that story if it ever gets written.
