I mean, it's both. There's a power imbalance AND a massive age gap. Feels like the author could've done a he's 23 and she's 18 setup but instead this looks like it's a 33 vs 17 or some shit. Like, how does she claim they're childhood friends. He was in college when she was in elementary school. That's not childhood friends.

Agreed but, I think he was in high school and she was in elementary? That still doesn't make them childhood friends, thats way too large a gap.
