Are child protection services not a thing in Japan? Here if a kid called an emergency help line saying that their parent is missing for a couple of days the police would get instantly involved and the child would be either left at their relatives or picked up by child services.

Honestly she's safer in this situation than if child protective services picked her up in America at least (I don't know what country you are from so I'm going off of my home country). Here child protective services have individuals working for it that will sell children to criminal organizations and it's usually covered up with large bribes to lower ranking state officials. Not to say that all of CPS is corrupt just that it is widespread especially in the state I live in. Also, more often than not, the foster care system has bad Foster parents who take in children just to get money from it (Which is sorta? this situation?) and those "parents" often abuse and work those kids like pack-mules. It's pretty shitty.

Pretty sure if you can give your kid that much money, you should be able to hire a baby sitter or a nanny even. The logic is a bit weird here. This guy probably only got picked cause he looks good. Bet if it were someone even average looking or ugly, she would call the police. LOL

Also... - Kyou Kara Ore wa Loli no Himo - This series reminds me of that loli one... though I prefer that one cause the MC is otaku rather than ikemen. Would've been great if someone had just picked that one up and finished it though. :meguuusad:

How long could they feasibly survive off of 500,000 JPY? I have no idea what the cost of living is in Japan.
For simplicity and the fact that Rinko said that her family was poor, I will calculate the average monthly cost for Rinko assuming the minimum cost for rent, utilities, and groceries.

Rent for a two-bedroom is between 12,000-60,000 yen so I would assume her mother did not rent the cheapest apartment I would assume rent to be around 15,000 yen per month with the utilities costing around 10,617 yen (gas = 2,920 yen, water = 2,245 yen, and electric = 5,452 yen) and her groceries to be around 21,667 yen for two people (Riko and Haruno) or 7,216 yen for instant ramen (100 yen each) and barley tea (180 tea bags for 1,133 yen) for two people (Riko and Haruno).

Given that the average monthly salary is around 180,000 yen which would mean that 500,000 yen would last almost three months for a family that has someone working and the monthly expenditure for basic living expenses is around 47,284 yen per month for basic living expenses which would extend the expected three months to around eleven months if every yen is watched.
