I find it amusing that there are people on both sides of the post - “where progress?” VS “holy shit this much progress?”

Yeah. Some will read a oneshot and say they'd read two hundred chapters of continuation, others give up on series if they see no progress in the first few chapters or dig into spoilers before they commit. As for me, I don't expect romcoms to deliver good romance at all and I'm neutral to progress, but if the characters aren't funny or stop being funny at some point, that's pretty bad.
I think this story in particular is quite transparent about what it wants to be so that readers could make up their mind early on.

In another note I really like the authors drawing style and the little quirky switches every now on then. I find it very charming. It did remind me to something I had seen before (those eyes) and it made sense once I searched up I was relating it to Koi to Uso.

That's a nice policy to have but authors shouldn't expect this much good will from every reader. A good chapter one, especially such a lengthy one, should be light on exposition dumping and have a good hook to get the reader invested into the characters.
