I'll be conflicted if MC qualification allows the city he was in at the start to keep being one, everyone in that shithole hated him aside literally 2 people, 3 if we count his friend GF that he barely knows.
Is even stupid because I presume they can keep their status as a city in exchange for having a wargod to protect them from the monster surge, MC can't afford to stay in that hole of weaklings.
The friend uncle tried to protect the city, possibly because his where he lived and was precious, but faking the wargod status means having someone too weak to defend it in a crisis, so when the capital is corrupt disbanding weak towns is the correct choice.
Of course, all this chaos is because the capital families made the monsters get too powerful in the first place.
