The most Treia could argue is that Hardlett went overboard with his defense of the country's border. However, Hardlett could claim that he felt the country was being invaded and that complete suppression was necessary to ensure his citizens' safety. He would not know whether Treia had invaded his country from other areas. It would be reasonable to assume they had.

Can't remember if the manga kept it(it cuts some stuff about her) but she grew up on hero stories and tales of chivalry. Him honoring the dead man resonates with her and she's impressed by his thought-fullness.

That he wasn't just looting any and everything remotely in his path would help with those assertions too, though he did definitely go a bit far into the country for the story.
