Headcannon: Probably because people actually like mechanical features and those corpos noticed it from how model with lots of mechanical showing sold faster.

Also, their mechanical showing like that probably also make those model modular and user friendly. Broken part from too much fun? Order a replacement parts. Too small? Buy bigger one. Easy installation
