I'm going off my hunch here, but I feel like the manga glossed over some important details the original light novel have done. I'm guessing that the gyaru was the girl the MC confessed to in middle school where he got traumatized and converted into the 2D girls lover MC we see in the beginning of the manga.

This manga portrays the gyaru as some kind of force of nature lol, like she almost has no characterization at all. Her actions seems like it was based on a whim. It's baffling

Well she clearly said "new love" for herself and clearly going after mc. But mc is just being a wuss instead of shutting her advances down and thats the only downside of this story to me bc if yuuka did the same we all would be really mad right? I cant just look over it just bc he is staying still and not fawning ovet her it doesnt matter he is guilty about it bc he isnt shutting her off in anyway and only yuuka saves him everytime. This is a big downside bc he is using yuukas kind behaviour of not making it big and acting cute with a little jelaousy (i would be more happy if she was really mad/upset so he create some backbone for himself to make her happy again but anyway).
