I've enjoyed this story on the surface, but with every instance of a therapist character in fiction being written as a villain (whether introduced or revealed in time as such), the worse the reputation of mental therapy as a profession and as a service becomes to fiction's readers.
I honestly don't know whether I should side with "fiction exploring any detail it can" or "fiction knowing when to not damage an aspect of reality by questioning said aspect". Then again, that's what makes such conundrums entertaining in their own right.
