The sakabatou can kill just fine. A blunt instrument is perfectly fine as a weapon, plus the sakabatou is also pointed. There's a whole class of swords meant to be used by thrusting, such as a rapier, plus the ones used for training and sports. I wonder if the confusion in this title's translation is due to some word definition in Japanese that possibly means both to cut and kill?
